FAQs

How can I know if counselling is right for me?

I offer an initial session for £40 which lasts up to one hour. This is an opportunity for us to decide whether this is the right place for you, and whether my approach is what you are looking for. The relationship between counsellor and client is central to successful therapy so it’s important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor that you choose.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions last for 50 minutes. It is best for us to have a regular slot booked in each week for the duration of your sessions, but I appreciate that busy lives mean that this isn’t always possible, and I will endeavour to be as flexible as I can. Evening and daytime appointments are available.

How many sessions will I need?

Some people only need a few sessions, especially if they have a particular problem that they want to focus on. Others need something more long term. Some people like to take a break after a few sessions and then return to counselling. As with the counselling itself, the number and timing of your sessions will be tailored to suit your needs.

What are my qualifications

MA in relationship therapy (validated by Hull University, and accredited by the BACP).

I have undertaken extensive further training including counselling children and young people and working with mental health issues. I am committed to maintaining my knowledge and being up to date on new developments in the field, so attend continuing professional development courses and workshops regularly. In addition to my private practice, I work for Relate with individuals, couples and young people.

What about confidentiality and other ethical issues?

I adhere to the BACP code of ethics. I have regular professional supervision where client confidentiality is maintained.

I comply with data protection legislation and maintain the security of all client information. I will not share information from or about my clients other than in very exceptional circumstances such as if I was concerned about someone’s safety.

My practice is fully insured.

I always hold a current DBS certificate.
